Jo Ann Stout

Jo Ann Stout, 87, of Poplar Bluff, MO, passed away Thursday, November 09, 2023.

Jo Ann was born on January 24, 1936, to Otto A. and Thelma C. (Case) Wallis in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. She married John C. Stout on June 10, 1955, also in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.

Jo Ann graduated from Poplar Bluff High School in 1954. She then went on to receive an undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri in Columbia, as well as a master’s degree from Webster University. Jo Ann taught home economics at Broseley High School for one year before continuing her teaching career at Poplar Bluff High School for another thirty-two years. During retirement, Jo Ann was a substitute teacher.

In addition to being a full-time educator and mother, Jo Ann was involved in many educational, community and church organizations. She was a member of Phi Upsilon Omicron and Phi Lambda Theta. She was heavily involved with the athletic booster clubs during her sons' grade school years. Jo Ann was member of the First United Methodist Church of Poplar Bluff for over forty years. She was also a Sunday School teacher for several years.

Jo Ann is survived by her husband, John Carlton Stout; two sons, John Wallis Stout of Rolla, Missouri and David (Ann Hansbrough) Stout of Parkville, Missouri; three grandchildren, Stephen (Christine) Stout, Courtney (Jake Vanderweel) Stout, and Mackenzie Stout; five great-grandchildren, Quincy, Lucy, Leon, Alice and Freyja Stout.

Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Thelma Wallis and one sister, Mary Sielk.

Final viewing will be held on Monday, November 13, 2023 from 10:30-11:00am at the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery. Graveside service will follow beginning at 11:00am.
