Wyman H. (Jim) Hampton, who looked forward to this day for many years, walked into Heaven at 10:45pm on Sunday, July 1, 2007, after suffering a massive stroke on Friday, June 29, 2007. He is now seated at the feet of Jesus with the Saints around the Throne.
He was born in Malden, MO on April 10, 1914 to Felix and Fletie Hampton, the eighth of thirteen children. Brother Floyd (Sodie) Hampton and sisters, Ruth Stewart and Maxine Jewett survive. He farmed for many years in Malden before moving to Poplar Bluff, in 1960. He then opened The Hampton Insurance Agency where he was recognized as an outstanding agent in the industry. He was both respected and trusted by his many friends, clients and associates.
He was preceded in death by Ruby Hardy Hampton, his cherished wife of fifty-eight years. He is survived by: Verle Hampton, his beloved wife, companion and friend of the last nine years; three believing children, Wyma Pearson (Tom) of Fayetteville, AR, David Hampton (Jan) of Springfield, OH and Steve Hampton (Brenda) of Round Rock, TX; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren who celebrate the influence of his life. He had a special place in his heart for Verle's children, Judy and Ben Pulliam and Patricia and Darryl McCrary, who devoted so much loving care on his behalf.
His greatest love in life was serving the Lord. He was an ordained Deacon for sixty years, having served at Lone Oak General Baptist Church in Malden, MO, First General Baptist Church and Fellowship General Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff, MO. At the time of his death, he was a member of New Home General Baptist Church, in Poplar Bluff, MO.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel, in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 12 noon in the chapel with the Rev. Calvin Buhler officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, in Malden.
Memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Hampton to the charity of one's choice.
