Windel Hugh Smith

Windell Hugh Smith, 60, of Wappapello, formerly of St. Louis, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006 at his residence.

Mr. Smith was born April 5, 1946, in Caruthersville to the late Hughie and Idell (Russom) Smith. He was of the Pentecostal faith and a retired apartment building supervisor. Mrs. Smith was also a veteran of the United States Marines. He enjoyed gardening, yard work and fishing.

On Aug. 28, 2006, he married Wanda Lee Crites, at Wappapello. She survives.

Other survivors include two stepdaughters, Tanya O'Malley, of Wappapello and Scarlett Heise and husband Jon, of Baxter, Tenn.; a step-grandson, Joshua Heise and wife Jessica, of Erie, Pa.; three sisters, Lessie Branson, of Washington, Mo., Mildred Marshall and husband Ross, of Mt. View, Mo. and Hilda Lawrence, of Fenton, Mo.; twin brothers, Carlie Smith, of Patton, Mo. and Arlie Smith and wife Barb, of Batesville, Ark.; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, a sister, Lola Tinnin and three brothers Roy Smith, Buddy Smith and Mannard Smith, also preceded Mr. Smith in death.

Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18th at Cotrell Funeral Chapel, in Wappapello. The funeral service will begin at 12 noon Tuesday, Sept. 19th in the chapel at Wappapello with the Rev. Ross Marshall officiating. Burial, with full military honors will follow at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery, in Bloomfield.
