Lucille Sheppard, 79, of Lone Hill, died Monday, July 31, 2006 at the Cedargate Care Center, in Poplar Bluff. She had been in declining health for the past several years.
Mrs. Sheppard was born Oct. 11, 1926, in Wardell, Mo. to the late Elmer and Lydia (Ward) Burns. She was of the Pentecostal faith and a homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening and sewing.
On July 8, 1941, she married Charles Edward Sheppard, at Lone Hill. He preceded her in death on June 13, 1999.
Survivors include six children, Norma Owens, of Jackson, Ruth Ann Davis and husband Arlie, of Fairdealing, Bonnie Burris and husband Gene, Karen Fowler and husband Jerry, and Richard Sheppard and wife Mary, all of Poplar Bluff and Jerry Sheppard and wife Martha, of Clarkton; 26 grandchildren, one of whom she help raise and was her caregiver, Devin Sheppard, many great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Pat Sheppard, of Poplar Bluff; three sisters, Billie Jean Phipps, of Wappapello, Marybelle Wilson, of Festus and Pat Forsythe, of Poplar Bluff; and three brothers, James Burns, of Bloomfield, Louis Burns, of Enid, Okla. and Floyd Burns, of Poplar Bluff.
Two daughters, Charlene Marlow and Debbie Lynn Sheppard, two sons, Sammy Ray Sheppard and James Sheppard, a sister, Imogene McDaniels, and two brothers, John Burns and Leon Burns, also preceded Mrs. Sheppard in death.
Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel, in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel, with the Rev. Dennis Fowler officiating. Burial will be at Lone Hill Cemetery.
