Walter Roy Wilhoit

Walter Roy Wilhoit, 59, of Poplar Bluff, died Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at his residence after a long illness.

Mr. Wilhoit was born Jan. 25, 1948, in Munich, Germany. Moving to Poplar Bluff with his family in 1953, he graduated from Poplar Bluff High School, in 1966 and later from Southeast Missouri State University. Mr. Wilhoit was raised in the Episcopal faith and was employed for 36 years with the United States Postal Service, 16 of which he served as Post Master for the City of Campbell. He was also a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam Era; and a proud member of the Eagles Lodge of Poplar Bluff for many years where he served as past president and in various other offices. Mr. Wilhoit enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, hunting and collecting beer steins.

In March of 1996, he married Pat Bond. She survives.

Other survivors include daughters, Jamie Lewis and husband Scott, of Poplar Bluff, Melanie Orr and husband Brian and Misty Wilhoit and fiance Aaron Weaver, all of Springfield, and Mindy West and husband Jeremy, of Troy; son, James Bond, of Poplar Bluff; father, George Wilhoit and wife Janice, of Springfield; mother, Irene (Hamann) Wilhoit Arthur and husband John, of Aventura, Fla.; 11 grandchildren, Lee, Allan, Erica, Sierra, Shelby, Audra, Kennedy, Whitney, Eli, Bailey, and Braden; sister, Liane Lynch and husband Tom, of Knoxville, Tenn.; sister-in-law, Deana Bruce and husband Leo, of Ill.; nephews, Joe Lynch and wife Melissa, of Knoxville, Tenn. and Justin Rutherford, of Tallahassee, Fla.; an aunt, Olga Schuerzinger, of Aventura, Fla.; and many friends.
