Verna Marie Christian Sloan

Verna Marie Christian Sloan, 74, of Poplar Bluff, died February 17, 2007 at her residence. Mrs. Sloan was born July 13, 1932 in Poplar Bluff to the late Vernon Q. and Clarice Mae (Rowland) Christian. She was a retired Nurse for the Poplar Bluff Hospital and the Hendrickson Clinic; a licensed cosmetologist and teacher of cosmetology, and worked as a tumor registrar at Doctors Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Sloan was a member of the First Baptist Church. Her hobbies were gardening, reading, crossword puzzles, quilting, cooking and caring for her beloved Yorkies.

On May 24, 1964 she married John Edgar Sloan in Poplar Bluff and he preceded her in death on May 2, 2002. Surviving are four children, Jennifer ""Jenny"" Christian and husband Fred of Poplar Bluff; Bobbi Marie Cummins and fiance Douglas Deason of Cordova, TN; Mark Christian Sloan and wife Joanne of Kalamazoo, Mich. and John E. Sloan, II of Mt. Home, Idaho; eight grandchildren, Matthew Christian, Rebecca Simpson, Jennifer (JJ) Voss, Angela Christian Fox, John E. Sloan, III, Rosetta Sloan, Martin Sloan and Makenzie Sloan; six great grandchildren; two brothers, Myron Christian and wife Rosetta of Poplar Bluff and George C. Christian and wife Marie of Poplar Bluff; and a special friend, Diane Brown of Wappapello, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11:00 Tuesday at the funeral home chapel with Dr. William Vail officiating. Burial will be in the City Cemetery.

The family requests memorials may be made to Legacy Hospice, United Cancer Assistance Network (UCAN) or the First Baptist Church.
