Vera Nadine Holland

June 24, 1932 — February 12, 2023

Poplar Bluff

Nadine Holland, 90, of Poplar Bluff died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2023.

Mrs. Holland was born on June 24, 1932, in Braggadocio, Missouri, the daughter of the late Irvin and Maggie Teeter. She grew up working on the family farm with her eight brothers and sisters.  She loved to share stories about how she helped raise her brothers and sisters and how much she loved going to school and playing softball and basketball.

She met her future husband, Jerry, at school.  She said that she was not interested in him in the beginning because all he did was stare out the window at school and daydream.  However, he won her over, as he did everyone he met, and she married him on Nov. 3, 1951.

Nadine and Jerry moved to Camp Lejeune in North Carolina when Jerry joined the U.S. Marines.  Their oldest daughter, Dianne, was born during this time.  Nearly two years later, their youngest daughter, Pat, was born when they returned to Missouri and began their family life as civilians.

Nadine was a homemaker for her family for many years before entering the workforce.  She worked for numerous factories, including the Florsheim shoe factory, until her retirement.

Since her retirement, Nadine enjoyed spending time with family, watching sports such as golf and Cardinal baseball and decorating her home.  She was an excellent interior decorator and designer and was delighted when people thought she was professionally trained.  She was also an extremely talented artist.  She painted numerous canvases with landscapes, architectural scenes, and wildlife.  Her art will be cherished by her loved ones for years to come.

One of the proudest achievements of Nadine’s life was earning her GED at the age of 55.  Education was always important to her and she spent her entire life encouraging her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to learn as much as possible because education opens doors.

Nadine was one of the last true “ladies” of the world.  She was always beautifully coiffed and dressed, whether she was leaving the house or not.  She kept an impeccable home and was the perfect hostess for every person who crossed the threshold into her home.  She has been a shining role model for her family and friends, and we will honor her legacy by upholding and demonstrating her values and manners in our own lives.

Nadine is survived by her brother, Gary (Mary) Teeter of St. Louis and her sister, Wanda Wattle of Blytheville, Arkansas; two daughters: Dianne (Dale) Gulledge of Maynard, Arkansas and Pat (Bill) Taylor of Poplar Bluff; four grandchildren: Shelly (Alan) Roby of Qulin, Stacey Harlow of Poplar Bluff, Wes (Bobbie Jo) Wyrick of Bragg City, and Dee (Aaron) Burton of Poplar Bluff; 10 great-grandchildren: Doug Roby, Zack Robinson, Taylor, Tori, and Ty Harlow, Dakota and Weston Wyrick, and Noah, J.D., and Micha Burton; and two great-great-grandchildren: Tyson and Hudson Roby.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Holland; two brothers: William and Jerry; and four sisters:  Mildred, Elizabeth, Maxine, and Lucille.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. -noon Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023 at Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral Services. Burial and funeral services will take place immediately afterward at the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
