Velma Stout Atwell, 85, of Poplar Bluff, died Thursday, July 27, 2006 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. She had been in poor health for the past several years.
Mrs. Atwell was born Feb. 26, 1921, in Harviell to the late George Everett and Florence (Bruce) Stout. She attended the Lord's Chapel Church, and had retired as an assistant Cafeteria Supervisor. Mrs. Atwell enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing, gardening and reading.
In 1942, she married James Randell Atwell, Sr. He preceded her in death on Nov. 21, 1979.
Survivors include a son, James R. Atwell, Jr., of California: a daughter, Charlotte Atwell Coolidge, of Poplar Bluff; five grandchildren, Troy Ann Atwell, Toni Marie Atwell, David Wayne Atwell, Terry Lynn Atwell, Jennifer DeeAnn Stevens; two great-grandchildren, Bradon Michael Atwell and DeeAnna Stevens; four sisters, Alma Blunt, of Naylor, Dorothy Gatewood, of Rector, Ark., Mildred Robertson, of Arnold and Vera Jones, of Poplar Bluff.
Four brothers, Otis Rideout, Loyd Stout, Aubert Stout and Leroy Stout preceded Mrs. Atwell in death.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel, in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the chapel, with the Rev. Rowdy Boyer officiating. Burial will be at Kinsey Cemetery, in Butler County.
