Vanessa Anastasia Powell, age 25, passed away in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, on the evening of Friday, October 14th, 2022.
Vanessa was born on October 21st, 1996, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, to her mother, Nancy (Walker) Powell, and her father, Timothy Powell.
When she was young, she lived in Hawaii, California, Kentucky, Missouri, and North Carolina until her father retired from the U.S. Navy, where she returned to Missouri with her family. She was full of love, kindness, and compassion. An animal lover, Vanessa adopted many rescues into her family home. She loved to cook all kinds of food, especially spaghetti. In her later years, she developed a love for drawing and painting abstract art.
Most of all, Vanessa aspired to be a musician, loving to play and create music. Vanessa could sing beautifully and won a contest where she sang Fleetwood Mac’s “Everywhere.” She could play any instrument she touched. Guitar and drums were her favorites. She graduated from high school in Richlands, North Carolina, where she played the cello, percussion in band, and sang in the choir. Vanessa was a social butterfly and always saw the best in everyone. Family meant a lot to her, and she was happiest surrounded by them.
She is survived by both parents; one older sister, Victoria (Powell) Hill; and one younger brother, Saxton Powell; her maternal grandparents, Stephen Walker and Shirley Thompson; her paternal grandmother, Fay Powell.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Robert Powell.
In lieu of flowers, send donations to the Poplar Bluff Animal Shelter.
