Tommie Mae (Poe) Mitchener

May 2, 1940 — September 30, 2022

Doniphan, Missouri

Tommie Mae (Poe) Mitchener, 82, of Doniphan, MO, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home on Friday, September 30, 2022.

Tommie was born on May 2, 1940, to Voris and Sylvia "Marie" (Drysdale) Poe in Oxly, Missouri. She married Robert "Bob" E. Mitchener on October 26, 1958, in Butler County.

Tommie was certainly one of a kind. She enjoyed yard work, good music, karaoke, and shenanigans with Norma, JoAnne, and her daughters. She had a collection of artwork, glassware, and other miscellaneous finds from flea markets and yard sales; she even had her own booth at several of the local markets for many years. Around Christmas she looked forward to attending the Trans-Siberian Orchestra show in St. Louis. Tommie was famous for her brisket, homemade ice cream, and last but not least, her coconut cake, which was often requested by her grandchildren on birthdays. Tommie became an excellent cook and host over the years, welcoming the entire clan to her home for the highly anticipated and infamous Mitchener family reunions. Tommie was known to friends and family as a vision of timeless class, beauty and wit. She had a gentle, patient, and kind soul. Tommie loved and supported her family through thick and thin and never missed an opportunity to share how proud they each made her. She will go down in history as the greatest back scratcher of all time by her grandchildren. Tommie will be missed and remembered by many.

Tommie is survived by two daughters, Tammy (Ralph Glenn) Harty and Janiece Killian; one son, Craig Mitchener; one sister, Margaret "JoAnne" Harder; six grandchildren, Laticia Weston, Tara "Tipper" Raddle, Brandi Adams, Ciara Hicks, Amy Raddle, and Jody Mitchener; seven great-grandchildren; sister-in- law, Betty (Chuck) Morris; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family; and best friend, Norma Patrick.

Tommie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one sister, Janet Russell; one brother, Donald Poe.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, from 6:00-8:00pm at Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at 11:00am at Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral & Cremation Services in Poplar Bluff with Chaplain Callum Reavey officiating. Burial will take place at Doniphan Oak Ridge Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Bob.
