Talmadge R. McCoy, 71, of Poplar Bluff died unexpectedly Monday, April 28, 2008 at his residence.
Mr. McCoy was born Feb. 22, 1937, in Caruthersville, Mo. While in high school he qualified for State Track 3 years in a row; was voted most outstanding athletic during his senior year; was awarded the Babe Ruth Sportsmanship award in 1955; and boxed in the lightweight division of Golden Gloves Boxing League. Mr. McCoy was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and 4th Degree member of Knights of Columbus. He owned and operated McCoy's Scrap Processing, in Poplar Bluff. Mr. McCoy enjoyed spending time with his family, being outdoors, hunting and fishing.
On Nov. 1, 1956 he married Peggy Watt, in Caruthersville. She survives.
Other survivors include four children, Richard Keith McCoy and wife Patti, and Brian Kelly McCoy, all of Poplar Bluff, Tammy Bernice Atteberry and husband Tom, of St. Louis and Terri Ann Wu and husband Wayne, of Grand Rapids, Mich.; 14 grandchildren, Patrick McCoy, Keith McCoy, Christopher Atteberry, Michael Atteberry, Matthew Atteberry, Ashley Venker, Andrew Venker, Phillip Venker, Derrick Wu, Mirissa Wu, Emily Wu, Isabella Wu, Talmadge McCoy and Tanner McCoy; a sister, Ruth Ellen Beal, of Mattoon, Ill.; 5 brothers, Charles McCoy and Frankie McCoy, both of Caruthersville, Larry McCoy, of Poplar Bluff, Robert McCoy, of Tenn., and Michael McCoy, of Springfield.
His parents, Eugene and Ruth (London) McCoy, daughter, Cristie Renee McCoy, and brothers, Ronnie McCoy and Keith McCoy preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from at 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel, in Poplar Bluff with Rosary being observed at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father David Coon officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
