Sylvia Violet Seib

Sylvia Violet Seib peacefully passed away Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Seib was born July 4, 1913, in Cape Girardeau to the late John and Mary ""Mae"" (Hopper) Caraker. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Poplar Bluff where she was a member of the KC-ettes and the St. Ann's Altar Society.

On Oct. 10, 1932, she married Austin Henry Seib, in Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death on Jan. 25, 1982.

In 1940, they moved to Charleston and owned and operated the Super Cut Rate Drug Store, until 1958. In 1954, Mrs. Seib had the opportunity to fulfill her dream and became a Licensed Practical Nurse, sharing her love and kindness with all she cared for. In 1958 the family moved to Poplar Bluff where she worked for a while at the VA Hospital, and for over 20 years at the Lucy Lee Hospital.

Mrs. Seib loved the Lord, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved helping others and taking them for drives in the country. Some of her favorite pastimes were studying nature and history, rock collecting, sewing, painting and embroidering.

Mrs. Seib is survived by two daughters, Mary Sue Beis and husband John and Rose Mary Scobey and husband Joe, of Poplar Bluff; two sons, Richard Seib and wife Ruth Ann, of Dallas, Tex. and Chris Seib and wife Lisa, of St. Louis; her sister, Geraldine Schlosser, of Sikeston; a brother, Charles Caraker and wife Wanda, of Pana, Ill.; a special daughter-in-law, Pat Seib, of Poplar Bluff; a son-in-law, Bill Thies, of Poplar Bluff; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Two daughters, Judy Schultz and Janet Thies and a son, Joe Seib also preceded her in death.

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Monsignor Michael Swalina officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.

Cotrell Funeral Service, of Poplar Bluff is in charge of the arrangements.
