Stanley Woodford Whitmer

Stanley Woodford Whitmer, 81, of Poplar Bluff, MO, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Stanley was born on March 20, 1943, to Charlie and Agnus (Sullivan) Whitmer in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He married Deborah Hicks on April 10, 1993, also in Poplar Bluff.

Stanley was of the Southern Baptist faith. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan. Stanley enjoyed watching westerns and boxing, hitting a back road, and a good cup of hot coffee. He was a simple man who loved his family.

Stanley is survived by his wife, Debbie Hicks; eleven children, Stanley Carl (Freda) Whitmer, Gene Merchant, Rebecca Whitmer, Mark (Rose) Merchant, Janice (Ron) Vincent, Tim (Loretta) Merchant, Raymond Whitmer, Ronnie (Heather) Whitmer, April (Melvin) LeGrand, Matt Whitmer, and Shawn Freeman; one brother, Terry (Sherry) Whitmer; thirty-three grandchildren; along with numerous great grandchildren, extended family and friends.

Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; son, William Merchant; two sisters, Deanna McIntosh and Patricia Walker; five brothers, Jack, Richard, Robert, Charles, and Gary Whitmer; first wife, Sandra Rusert Whitmer; second wife, Beatrice Kildow; stepson, Chris Moore; granddaughter, Haley Whitmer.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2024, from 5:00-6:00pm at Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral & Cremation Services.

Graveside service will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024, at 10:00am at the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery with Brother Kevin Young officiating.
