Samuel James Rongey

Samuel J. ""Sam"" Rongey, Sr., 72, of Poplar Bluff, died Sunday, June 4, 2006 at the Southeast Missouri Hospital, in Cape Girardeau.
Mr. Rongey was born April 6, 1934, in East St. Louis, IL to the late Phillip and Minnie Rongey. During his early adult years, he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. Later in life he became a plumber by trade and retired from Allied Plumbing and Heating, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Mr. Rongey was also a member of the Pipefitter's Local Union 430, in Oklahoma. He enjoyed woodworking.
He was married to Demma Ann Sexton, who preceded him in death on Nov. 10, 2002.
Survivors include a daughter, Diane Johnson, of CA.; four sons, Samuel J. Rongey, Jr., of MO, Phillip Rongey, Donald Rongey and Robert Rongey, all of IL; two stepsons, Mitchell Lorton, of IL and Dean Lorton, of MO; 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marjorie DeHart, of IL; a brother, Paul Rongey, of IL; and caregivers and friends, Roger Goodale and Jeremy Williams, of MO.
Visitation will be from 5 - 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Wappapello Cotrell Funeral Chapel. A private family burial will be at a later date.
