Roy Jacob Schalk, 90, of Poplar Bluff, died October 26, 2007 at Cedargate Nursing Home. Mr. Schalk was born March 18, 1917 in Poplar Bluff to the late Otto Jacob and Callie (Mossburger) Schalk and was a member of the New Home General Baptist Church. A retired brakeman for the Missouri Pacific Railroad -- Union Pacific Railroad, he was a member of the United Transportation Union for 65 years and a member of NARVRE. Mr. Schalk also enjoyed gardening.

On June 12, 1937 he was married to Dollie Lee Lashley and she preceded him in death in September, 1992. On October 29, 1993 he married Carol Sue Olinger in Poplar Bluff and she survives.

Also surviving are 3 sons, Robert Allen Schalk and wife Sharyn of Phoenix, Ariz.; Billy Gene Schalk and wife Karen of Topeka, Kan.; and Charles Roy Schalk and wife Brenda of Poplar Bluff; 2 stepchildren, Randy Bozarth of Poplar Bluff and Laura Niebruegge and husband Ron of St. Jacob, Ill.; 11 grandchildren, Rita Schalk, Laurie Gardner, Ginger Haynes, Logan Dean Schalk, Traycee Schalk, Christina Koenig, Patricia Lee Ahlenius, Patrick Alan Schalk, Anthony Charles Schalk, Michael Lee Schalk and Phillip Jacob Schalk; 5 step grandchildren, John Allison, II, Jodey Allison, Tim Allison, Sara Bozarth and Sam Bozarth; 24 great grandchildren, 4 step great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; and 1 brother, Theodore J. Schalk of Poplar Bluff. Preceding Mr. Schalk in death was one son, Michael Schalk and one step grandson, Eric Schnizler.

Visitation will be at 6:00 - 8:00 P.M., Sunday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Calvin Buhler officiating. Burial will be in the City Cemetery.
