Opal R. Foust, 90, of Poplar Bluff died Monday, Aug. 11, 2008 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Foust, the 5th of 12 children, was born Dec. 24, 1917, in Pollard, Ark. She along with her late husband, Ralph A. Foust, Sr. opened Foust Donut Shop on Highway 53 in March 1945 which evolved into Foust Dairy Queen in 1955. They also owned and operated Foust Market on Second Street from 1949 until retirement. Mrs. Foust was a member of Collins Chapel General Baptist Church. She enjoyed flower gardening, fishing, cooking, and St. Louis Cardinals ballgames.
On Dec. 25, 1936 she married Ralph Alfred Foust, Sr., in Poplar Bluff. He preceded her in death on April 15, 1998.
Survivors include four children, Daisy McGonigal, of Piedmont, Ralph A. Foust, Jr. and wife Patricia, Don Foust and wife Barbara and Diane Christian and husband Robert, all of Poplar Bluff; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, Kristy Cooper and Patrick, Rhonda and Larry Payton, and Janna, all of Piedmont, Jeffry Payton and Jason Payton, of St. Louis, Tracy McGonigal, of Independence, Michael and Daniel McGonigal, of Piedmont, Alicia Pierce and husband Robert and Emilee and Brittann, of Desloge, Tara Kearby and husband Jeff, and Taylor and Matthew, of Lakeland, Tenn., Don Foust and wife Sondra and Ryan and Sean, of Poplar Bluff, David Foust and wife Kris and Lyndy and Zane, of Poplar Bluff, Doug Foust and wife Sandy and Benjamin, of Shawnee, Kans., Wesley Christian and daughter, Madison, of Kansas City, Mo., and Corey Christian and Ethen and Caden, of Poplar Bluff; two sisters, Betty Costin, of Wappapello and Dorothy Daves, of Pollard, Ark.; two brothers, Myron Porch and wife Carolyn and Floyd Porch, all of Poplar Bluff; and a fifth generation great-great grandson scheduled to be born in October 2008.
Her parents, Solomon and Minerva (Culver) Porch, son-in-law, Otis McGonigal and 7 sisters and brothers preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday at Collins Chapel General Baptist Church, 110 E. Victor St., in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Collins Chapel General Baptist Church with the Rev. Lester Clayton officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn section of the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
