Olive Leona Godwin

Olive Leona Godwin, 96, of Poplar Bluff, died Sunday, July 6, 2008 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Godwin was born Oct. 15, 1911, in St. Louis. She was a member of Black Creek Missionary Baptist Church where she served as church secretary and treasurer for many years, and taught Sunday School for 25 years. Mrs. Godwin had retired from O'Neal School. She was a member of Missouri Retired Teacher's Association; a member of Rebekah Lodge 41; and served as a volunteer at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center for 18 years.
On Sept 22, 1934, she married Harold Godwin, in Van Buren. He preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 1973.
Survivors include her daughter, Della Sue Wilson and her husband Rick, of Poplar Bluff; two sons, James B. Godwin, of Neelyville and L.P. ""Buddy"" Godwin and his wife Mary, of Poplar Bluff; a niece and caregiver Judy Godwin, of Poplar Bluff; 8 grandchildren, Pete Godwin and his wife Nancy, Jennifer Hendricks and her husband Reggie, Katie Schroder and her husband Steve, Becky Eyler and her husband Kent, Bobby Godwin and his wife Beth, Ben Godwin and his wife Kelly, Aaron Wilson and his wife Shelly and Matthew Wilson; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Whitnmer, of Homosassa, Fla. and Carolyn Whitmer, of Poplar Bluff.
Her parents, James and Della (Deck) Whitmer, and two brothers, Allen Whitmer and Bob Whitmer preceded Mrs. Godwin in death.
Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Monday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel, in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home Chapel, with Elder Larry Edwards officiating and Elder Lloyd Steinshouer assisting. Burial will be at the City Cemetery, in Poplar Bluff.
