Melvin Wesly Smith, Jr.

Melvin Wesly Smith, Jr., 64, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, passed away Wednesday June 14, 2023, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Melvin was born Nov. 26, 1958, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Melvin W. Sr. and Cordelia Smith. He attended Washington Grade School and later Danville High School Danville, Illinois. He was a member of Danville C.M.E. Church, where he received Christ and was baptized. He loved all sports and spending time with his family. Melvin was disabled.

In 1999 he married Kathy Smith. She preceded him in death.

Melvin is survived by two sisters, Verna Smith, and Carol Smith; two stepsisters, Georgia Pittman, and Angel (Rodney) Teague; three stepbrothers, William Williams, Morris Williams, and Maurice Williams; two nephews Jason McGrown and Richard Gaines; a niece Jennifer McGrown; a great nephew Gonte McGrown; a great niece Keyasia Lillard; and a host of cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.

In addition to his wife Melvin was also preceded in death by his father, Melvin W. Smith, Sr., his mother, Cordelia Moss Smith Buchannan, a brother, Ronald Smith, a stepsister, Deborah Williams, and a nephew, Terry Gaines.

There will not be any local services.
