Melba Martin, 87, of Poplar Bluff and former long time resident of Neelyville died Monday, May 7, 2007 at her residence.
Mrs. Martin was born May 23, 1919, in Clarkedale, Ark. In 1955, she completed an extension course in Practical Nursing from Lincoln Institute, in Los Angeles, Calif. Mrs. Martin was an active member of Lively Stone Church of God, in Poplar Bluff and a homemaker. She was also a R.S.V.P. volunteer having served over 1000 hours. Mrs. Martin enjoyed her church, spending time with her family, gardening and sewing.
In 1939, she married Victor Martin. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include four children, Bobby ""Von"", of Country Club Hills, Ill., Carrie, of Poplar Bluff, Larry, of Rector, Ark. and Douglas, of Jacksonville, NC; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; her sister, Alice Jackson, of Oakland, Calif.; and a host of relatives and friends.
Mrs. Martin was also preceded in death by her parents, Pinkney and Thessalonia Crume; two brothers, Sam Esters and William Crume; three sisters, Nancy Montgomery, Jessie Rivers and Essie Landrum and a son, Victor Martin II.
