Melba Jean (Williams) Holt-Yazell

Melba Jean Holt-Yazell, 87, of Poplar Bluff, MO, passed away Monday, October 17, 2022, at Westwood Hills Care Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.

Melba was born on January 28, 1935, to Herbert and Eunice (Starnes) Williams in Newport, Arkansas.

Melba graduated from high school in Newport, Arkansas in 1952 where she participated in basketball and was Homecoming Queen.  Melba later moved to Poplar Bluff, Missouri where she was employed as an Administrative Assistant at City Hall and U.S. Savings of America Bank, later retiring as a Homemaker.

Melba was completely devoted to her family.  She never missed a special event that included her children or grandchildren.  Melba enjoyed cooking, gardening, clothing, and fashion.  Melba especially enjoyed hosting her family and friends during holidays and birthdays.  Melba was an avid sports fan, and particularly fond of her Arkansas Razorbacks.

Melba is survived by two sons, Ben (Debby) Holt and Boyce "Bo" (Cheryl Brawley) Holt; two grandchildren, Sarah Holt and Hannah Holt; along with numerous extended family members.

Melba was preceded in death by husband, Gregory Yazell; father of her sons, Boyce Holt; one sister, Margaret Hopkins; three brothers, Herbert Jr, Carlon, Jimmy Williams and special sister-in-law Kathryn “Kathy” Williams.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 21, 2022, from 9:00-11:00am at Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral & Cremation Services. Funeral service will follow beginning at 11 with Pastor Neal Chilton officiating. Burial will take place at the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
