Mary Jo (Summitt) Fry

Mary Jo Fry, 96, of Poplar Bluff, MO, passed away Tuesday, March 04, 2025, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Mary Jo was born on November 27, 1928, to Paul and Gladys (Lambert) Summitt in Cardwell, Missouri. She married Bobbie Gene Fry on April 07, 1950 also in Cardwell, Missouri.

Mary Jo was a long-time member of Highland Drive Church of Christ. She was an avid bird watcher and reader, enjoying the simple things in life. She loved horses and the farm she grew up on. Mary Jo was a grade school teacher for over 30 years, starting many First Graders on their reading and writing journeys. Her positivity never went unnoticed by others around her. Mary Jo’s greatest joy in life was her grandchildren, who always brought a smile to her face.

Mary Jo is survived by her daughter, Janna Fry; son, Rick Fry; sister, Jeanne Peel; brother, Bob Summitt; seven grandchildren, Jeanne, Kelley, Heather, Jennifer, Jacob, Leanne, and Ami; eleven great-grandchildren; along with numerous extended family and friends.

Mary Jo was preceded in death by her husband, Bobbie Gene Fry; son, William Fry; brother, Jesse Summitt.

Graveside service will be held at Cardwell Cemetery on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at 1:00pm in Cardwell, Missouri with Pastor Vernon Curry officiating.
