Mary Jean Hays

Mary Jean Hays, 98, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family.
Mary was born on March 5, 1926, to Clarence and Leta (Keith) Gulledge in Fisk, Missouri.  She married Verlin Hays on November 27, 1943, in Piggott Arkansas.
Mary graduated from Broseley High School in 1944 and retired from ASCS office in 1986. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.
Mary is survived by five children, Jeanne Porter, of Poplar Bluff, MO,  Verlin (Karol) Hays Jr, of Poplar Bluff, MO, Janet O'Neal of Little Rock, AR, Joey (Jeanie) Hays of Dyer TN, and Jerry (Debbie) Hays, of Corning AR; nine grandchildren, Todd Bess of  Edgewater FL, Keith (Lisa) Porter, of Poplar Bluff, MO, Mary Catherine (Cory) Robinson of Platte City, MO, Shawn (Amy) Arnell, of Hernando, MS, Jennifer (Adam) Acklin, of Bryant, AR, Chad (Claire) Reed of Fayetteville, AR, Jeffery (Paige) Hays of Dyer, TN, Jenna (Blake) Simpson of Trenton, TN, and Haley Hays of Jonesboro, AR; fifteen great grandchildren, Lindsay Porter, Cassie (Matt) Tubb, Olivia Robinson, Harris, Maggie, and Katherine Arnell, Anderson, Izabella, and Elliette Acklin, Eloise and Daphne Reed, Jaxon and Tripp Hays, and Greer and Mattie Simpson; one great great grandson, Miles Tubb; bonus grandchildren, Anita Burr, Tara (Austin) Lance, Blake, Madison and Paxton Duffy, Shayna (Joseph)Tilmon, Lexy Tilmon, Carson McKinnie, Erin, Ava, Ali Kate, and Archer Collins, and Andrew Blakemore; two nieces, Karen Brengel and Donna Taliaferro; and one nephew, Billie Hays.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Leta; husband, Verlin Sr.; and one sister, Hortense Hayes.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 2, 2024 from 1:00-2:00pm  at Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral & Cremation Services in Poplar Bluff, MO.
Funeral services will immediately follow with Pastor Jim Carrier officiating. Burial will take place at Brown Chapel Cemetery in Broseley Missouri.
