Marlene "Deedee' Faith (Emery) Hawkins

September 3, 1934 — September 22, 2022

Harviell, MO

Marlene Faith (Emery) Hawkins, 88, passed from this life into heaven, peacefully, on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at 1:15pm at Westwood Hills Nursing Home in Poplar Bluff, Mo. Her long battle with Alzheimer’s disease has come to an end as she went into the arms of Jesus. She is now, no doubt, singing alto in the heavenly choir and was met there by her dad and brother singing praises to God.

Mrs. Hawkins, daughter of the late Clyde and Ethel (Wagster) Emery was born September 3rd, 1934.  On June 5, 1966, she married Don Hawkins in New Madrid. He preceded her in death on March 6, 2014. She also was preceded in death by her brother Richard and his wife Kay Emery, of Siloam Springs, Arkansas.

She is survived by sons Chuck (Veronica) Harris of Wylie, Texas and Mike Hawkins of Ballwin, Mo. Also, daughters Susan (Ronald) Richards of Poplar Bluff, Linda Mayfield of Marble Hill, Jackie (Ken) French of Lake Cormorant, Mississippi, Gaye (Tommy) Guthrie of Sulphur Rock, Arkansas, and Donna (Jim) Akers of Harviell, Mo. She leaves one beloved sister, Nancy (Wilford) Anderson of Dubuque, Iowa. She is survived by 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Marlene loved going to church and was always ready to tell you how much she loved Jesus.  She attended Current River Baptist in Doniphan Mo from 1985 – 2016. There she loved to sing solos, duets with her daughter Donna and her dear friend Darlene McLaughlin, and in the church choir.  In 2016 she started attending Palace of Praise in Poplar Bluff with Donna’s family up until she was no longer physically able in January of 2022. She treasured her church family in both locations. She tells her testimony of being saved at the age of 30 at Memorial Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

She loved attending any sport or school event that her grandchildren were involved in. She could be found encouraging other students at games and giving out hugs to grandkids and their friends.

She was an LPN for 40 years and worked at the VA hospital and nursing homes in the area. She loved watching Cardinal baseball and the color red. She liked to fish, attend horseshows, and work in the garden and on the farm in her younger years.

Visitation will begin at 11 am Thursday, Sept 29, 2022, at Cotrell Willow Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff, with the funeral service following at Noon. The Rev. Randy West and Rev. Delbert McLaughlin will officiate.  Burial will be in the City Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
