Lloyd Dale Mcknight

Lloyd Dale McKnight, 89, of Poplar Bluff, died Monday, June 25, 2007 at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center, in Poplar Bluff.

Mr. McKnight was born March 4, 1918, in Cherryville, Kans. He had retired from the Missouri Natural Gas Co. and was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II. Mr. McKnight was a member of the Church of Nazarene where he taught Sunday School for several years. After his health began to fail, he moved to be with his daughter and attended Grace United Methodist Church. Mr. McKnight was a volunteer at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center for 7 years and was the first volunteer to log in 1000 hours of volunteer time in such a short period of time.

On Dec. 31, 1973, he married Sweetie L. Adamson, in Poplar Bluff. She preceded him in death on Oct. 13, 1994.

Survivors include four daughters, Iva Manis and husband Robert, and Shirley McKinney, all of Poplar Bluff and Vera Helton and Betty Mead, both of Clarksville, Va.; a son, Jack McKnight, of St. Louis; 16 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren; a niece, Judy McKnight, of Calif.; and a nephew, Charles Ray McKnight, of Wappapello.

His parents, Harry and Naomi (Sargent) McKnight, son, Tommy Joe McKnight and brother, Carlin McKnight also preceded Mr. McKnight in death.

Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel, in Poplar Bluff. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery with Ernest Harper officiating.
