Leota Laverne (Adams) Karnes

Leota Adams Karnes, 97, of Poplar Bluff, completed her earthly journey Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022, at Swift Creek Residential Care Center.

Mrs. Karnes was born Dec. 7, 1924, in Ripley County to Noah A and Eva (Greg) Adams.  She was of the General Baptist faith and a member of The Rebekah Organization.  Mrs. Karnes was a lady of many talents and a master of everything she tried to do.  Over the years she worked at Brown Shoe factory, Parks Shoe Store, several grocery and convenient stores, and owned and operated a restaurant. She was committed to helping and feeding people and enjoyed cooking large meals to share. She loved being outdoors, gardening and doing Find A Word Searches. Her special joy was traveling with her son and husband with the Black River Express Bluegrass Band. Her son loving described his mother as in her ‘Shining Glory - Belle of the Ball’ moment as he always introduced her while traveling.

Survivors include her son, Jerry D. (Betty) Karnes; four grandchildren, Lisa (Scott) Diecker, Cori (Rob) Reid, Kim Arbogast and Laferrell Price; six great-grandchildren, Nick, Justin, Zack, Austin, Aspen, and Anna; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Her parents, her husband Chester Joseph Karnes and a granddaughter, Cindy Price preceded her in death.

A graveside service and burial will begin at 11 am Thursday, Sept 22, 2022, at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Poplar Bluff, with Rev. Keith Luke officiating.
