Leo Edward Boeving, 89, a prominent retired businessman of Poplar Bluff died Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at The Manor, in Poplar Bluff.
Mr. Boeving was born April 8, 1919, in Poplar Bluff. He was a life long member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and was one of their first lectors, past member of the Church Council and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Boeving attended Sacred Heart Catholic grade school, graduated from Poplar Bluff High School and attended college at the University of Notre Dame. In 1939, he joined his father, Hugo Boeving in the Boeving Brothers Cotton Co. and continued in the cotton gins as well as soy bean, wheat and grain elevators. In 1958, Mr. Boeving became President of the Boeving Brothers Cotton Co. He also served as President of the Bank of Campbell, Campbell, Mo.; Director of the Bank of Poplar Bluff; Vice President of Malden State Bank, Malden, Mo.; Director on the Board of the State Bank of Bernie; and was a member of the Missouri Peach Growers Association. During his lifetime he was also an active member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Elks Club and Westwood Hills Country Club.
On April 22, 1946 he married Elsa Lee Priest. She survives.
Other survivors include their three children, William Hugo ""Hugh"" Boeving, of Beaverton, Oreg., Debra Lee Miller and husband Rafael, of Poplar Bluff and Robert Edward Boeving, of Newport News, Va.; 10 grandchildren, Christian Boeving, Charmaine Alexandra ""Missy"" Boeving, Nicholas Boeving, Scout Boeving, Anouk Boeving, Mariah Boeving, Daniel Boeving, Sean Miller and wife Dana, Shannon Miller, Leo Miller and wife Tanya; 4 great-grandchildren, Hillary Miller, Josh Webb, Madison Miller and Makenzie Miller; a sister, Marge Belknap and husband James, of Poplar Bluff; and a special niece and nephew, Judy Baldwin and Tommy Clarkson who made this life's transition for the family so much easier.
Mr. Boeving was preceded in death by his parents Hugo Leo and Marie (VanDuyne) Boeving and a sister, Irene Boeving Clarkson.
A memorial visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, April 14th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. in the church with Father David Coon officiating. Interment will be a private ceremony at a later date.
