Karen Wilson

October 19, 1956 — April 15, 2022

Karen Lynne Wilson, beloved family member, cherished friend, and recently retired insurance executive, died unexpectedly Friday, April 15th, 2022, at her home in Springfield, Virginia. She was 65 years young and had been looking forward to spending more time reading, traveling, making special memories with her loved ones, and lots of porch rocking with her Yorkie puppy Summer.

Karen was born in St. Louis, Missouri to Marita Ann (Hayman) and James Oscar Wilson. She was the sister to JoAnna Wilson Barker (Rodney) of Florida and Rita Marie Wilson Ferguson (Durell Dean) of Missouri. Karen was preceded in death by her parents and a brother James Michael Wilson (Gerry) of Missouri. She was the much admired and loved aunt of JW Starkey (Katie) and Brock Starkey, and Derek Dean and Ashley Wilson. Her extended family includes aunts, uncles, many cousins, and two grandnieces (Spencer and Palmer Starkey).

Karen relocated to Virginia from Missouri in her late teens. She finished high school at WT Woodson before pursuing her career in large construction insurance at Insurance Associates in the City of Fairfax which was acquired by Marsh & McLennan Agency in 2018. Her successful career spanned 45-years with the agency, having just retired on March 31st. She was a very proud and dedicated team member who enjoyed the complex challenges of her industry and the supportive environment from her company. Karen had a sharp mind, cheeky sense of humor, and she brought her own special brand of peculiar to life that will be missed.

A private graveside will be held for close family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, your donations in Karen’s memory are welcomed at Shriner’s Hospital or a local animal shelter in your community.

The family extends their deep gratitude to you for your prayers at this difficult time.
