John Ray Robinson, 79, of Poplar Bluff, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2020 at his residence, with his wife and son by his side.
John, the son of Don Edward and Christine (Poet) Robinson was born Aug. 5, 1941, in Cape Girardeau. He grew up in Sikeston during WWII, where his father was a pilot trainer at Harvey Parks school. After WWII, the family moved to Kennett, where John played football and was in track. In 1959 he attended University of Missouri and pledged Phi Delta Theta. After college John attended pharmacy school at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. As a pharmacist John along with his family lived in Poplar Bluff, Nashville, Portageville, and finally Poplar Bluff again where John and Mary Ann made their forever home. John also served as a volunteer with the Butler, Carter and Ripley Counties sheriff’s departments. He enjoyed spending time with his family, being outdoors and playing golf.
Surviving John are his wife, Mary Ann (Gruen) Robinson of the home, three children, Christi Gardell and husband Jeff of St. Louis, John K. Robinson of Poplar Bluff and Brian Robinson and wife Anna of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Courtney Gardell and Ryan Gardell of St. Louis, Kaylei Robinson of Lincoln, Arkansas and Olivia, Camilla and Madison Robinson of Houston, Texas; and a sister Betty Ann Voyles and husband Randy of Jackson, Mississippi.
John was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents John Edward and Nora Robinson.
A graveside service will begin at 1 pm Saturday, Dec. 19, 2020, at the City Cemetery, 1901 North Main Street, in Poplar Bluff. The Rev. Jim Schremp will officiate.
