JoAnn Padgett, 78, of Ellsinore, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2021, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
JoAnn, the daughter of Paul Harness and Mary Ellen Halter Stricker, was born April 26, 1943, in Charleston, Missouri. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a happy homemaker and proud to be a farmer’s wife. JoAnn loved to cook and bake. She was also known to be the best candy maker in Carter County. When she wasn’t in the kitchen JoAnn could be found outdoors helping her husband and tending to her large flower and vegetable garden. Christmas was always a huge event for the family, as JoAnn had the biggest Christmas tree she could find, which took over a week to decorate as well as every nook and cranny of the house. The word “magical’ is the way her grandchildren remember it. When you hear “matriarch of the family, JoAnn was it in every sense of the word. Her family knew she was always there for them and was never judgmental. She will be greatly missed!
JoAnn married the love of her heart Charles Mitchell Padgett in Greenville, MO. He preceded her in death on Oct. 26, 2000.
Survivors include two daughters, Lisa C. Hedge of Gamaliel, Arkansas, and Michell Finn of the home; three grandchildren, Larrissa A. Rains of Gamaliel, Arkansas, Matthew C. Finn of Ellsinore and Courtney M. Rains of Poplar Bluff; three great grandchildren, Jaden L. Davis of Gamaliel, Arkansas, Kennedi C. Finn of Ellsinore and Bailey M. Stenger of Poplar Bluff; a brother Joseph (Cathie) Stricker of Las Vegas , Nevada; a sister Barbara Hague of Jefferson City, Missouri; a sister-in-law Mary Ann Stricker of Charleston, Missouri; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was also preceded by her parents, a granddaughter, JoAnna C. Hedge, a brother Marion Stricker, and a brother-in-law Steve Hague.
A visitation will begin at 10 am Monday, Nov. 1, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Poplar Bluff. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 am with Father Daniel Robles serving as Celebrant. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
