Jessie W. Sconce

Jesse Walter Sconce, 95, of Poplar Bluff died Friday April 18, 2008 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Sconce was born Aug. 18, 1912, in Many Springs, Mo. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. Mr. Sconce had retired as an independent contractor for Star Route Mail Carriers, and was a former member of Star Route Mail Carriers Assoc. He enjoyed spending time with his family, participating in Senior Olympics, gardening, hunting and fishing.

On July 17, 1938, he married Reva M. Fry, in Eminence, Mo. She survives.

Other survivors include his daughter, Jane Worley, of Poplar Bluff; son-in-law, Dennis Mickey, of Poplar Bluff; five grandchildren, Roger Sconce and wife Cheri, Jennifer Higgins and husband David, Tim Worley and Julie Cambron, Jason Worley and Jessica Shumate; 11 great-grandchildren, Ryan Sconce, Kelsey Sconce, Charlie Higgins, Cooper Higgins, Jack Higgins, David Higgins, Trevor Worley, Morgan Miller, Rayni Worley, Maddi Mae Shumate and Deuce Shumate; two sisters, Marylee Honeycutt, of Birch Tree, Mo. and Lucille Hoffer and husband Wayne, of Bolivar, Mo.; and a brother, Johny Sconce and wife Wandalea, of Bolivar, Mo.

His parents, Wesley and Lula Pearl (Prince) Sconce, daughter, Jackie Mickey, son, Glen Sconce and three brothers, Oral Sconce, Raymond Sconce and Otho Sconce preceded Mr. Sconce in death.

Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel, in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the funeral Chapel with the Rev. Johny Sconce and Dr. William Vail officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
