Jean Douglass, 80, of Poplar Bluff, formerly of Cape Girardeau, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Douglass was born April 20, 1926, in Alton, Mo. Beginning her career in sales for Montgomery Ward, she also worked as receptionist for KFVS Television, in accounting for Union Electric and as a teller at People's Community Bank. Mrs. Douglass was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church; a volunteer at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center from 1995 until the present time; a member of the Amvets, where she coordinated troop correspondence; a member of the American Legion; a volunteer with the RSVP; and a member of the Red Hat Society as well. In her spare time she could be found delivering flags to veterans at nursing homes.
On Dec. 15, 1946, she married Russell Douglass. He preceded her in death on March 5, 1995.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Goldschmidt and husband Larry of Fisk; a son, Garnett Douglass, of Memphis; 9 grandchildren, Doug Goldschmidt, Pamela Goldschmidt, Nathan Goldschmidt, Logan Goldschmidt, Josh Douglass, Matt Douglass, Ben Douglass, Tonya Wybert and Reed Abercrombie; 2 great-grandchildren, Jordan Wybert and Katrina Douglass; a sister, Greatle Parrott, of Alton, Mo.; and her special friend, Harold Robbins, of Poplar Bluff.
Her parents, Lewis and Jennie Rose (Evans) Bates; two sons, Russell Stanley Douglass and Victor Douglass and his wife Linda (Fields) Douglass, and a second daughter-in-law, Linda (Greely) Douglass, and a granddaughter, Holly Goldschmidt, also preceded Mrs. Douglass in death.
Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Saturday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel, in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the chapel, with the Rev. Dennis Fowler officiating. Burial will be at the Hickory Grove Cemetery, in Alton, Mo.
