Nora Vernettie Stone, age 98, of Poplar Bluff, passed away Tuesday evening, June 12, 2007 at the Mark Twain Caring Center.
Mrs. Stone was born January 15, 1909 in Butler County to the late Fred and Alice (Tounzen) Miller. She and her late husband resided many years in Royal Oak, Michigan and were active in the Oak Baptist Church, where Mrs. Stone was the church pianist. She retired from Sears & Roebuck in Highland Park, Michigan. The Stones moved back home to Poplar Bluff in 1982 and were active members of the First Baptist church and the Pastor's Sunday School Class.
On July 31, 1928, she was married to Marion Starling Stone. He preceded her in death on April 22, 1989.
Survivors are two daughters, Marilyn Hastings and husband, James, of Poplar Bluff and Wanda Poirier of Jensen Beach, Florida; six grandchildren: Sandy Brown, Donald Brown, Karen Hast and Ruth Brown, all of Poplar Bluff, Lisa Lupo of Grapevine, Tex. and Michael Neidy of Monroe, Michigan; ten great grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Stone, the last of the Miller Family was preceded in death by sisters, Jettie Sheehy and Georgia Russell, brothers, Carl, Ray and Wallace Miller as well as an infant brother and two grandchildren Jeffrey and Deborah Neidy.
Visitation will be from 6-8 pm. Friday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will begin at 11 am Saturday in the funeral chapel, with Dr. William Vail officiating.
