Horace Franklin Barker, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on August 15, 2024, in Granbury, Texas. Born on May 27, 1952, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, Horace attended Poplar Bluff High School before enlisting in the US Navy.
Following his military service, he went to work on a riverboat as a Chief Engineer where his problem-solving skills and leadership were highly valued. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Masonic Order.
Horace will be remembered fondly for his wit, creative stories, and never-ending pranks. He was a wonderful and kind man with a big heart and deeply loved his country. He lived a life full of stories and adventures. He treasured the time spent camping with his family and his beloved dogs. He had a great love of music, the Wizard of Oz, and cars, and he knew how to fix anything.
Preceded in death by his parents Christine Niswonger Barker and Charles Alonzo Barker, he is survived by his loving wife Linda Barker, his daughters, Carrie Quezaire and Crystal Sciarini, his brother Allen Barker and wife Deanise, sisters Christina Linscomb and Barbara Key, nephews Charlie Barker (Taylor), Justin Barker (Ireland), Dylan Barker, niece Emma Linscomb, and Aunt Wanda Spargo and many cherished cousins. He is also survived by special friend Steve Simmons.
His grandchildren and great grandchild, Charissa, Gabriel, Jordan, and MaRaea, were a source of immense joy in his life. Horace had a special bond with his only great grandchild, Sawyer Dean, who cherished their time together.
Horace was a man of faith and a member of the Calvary Church of Granbury, Texas. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, providing him with comfort and community.
Horace's life will be celebrated and remembered at Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral & Cremation Services in Poplar Bluff, Missouri on Saturday, September 14, 2024, with visitation at 10:00 AM and memorial service at 11:00 AM. Graveside services will immediately follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Briar, Missouri.
His memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.
