Hazel "Mac" Maxine (Green) Croy

Maxine Croy 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 14, 2021, at her home in Poplar Bluff MO.

Mac was born on April 19, 1934, in St. Louis, MO. She married her childhood sweetheart Duke Croy on December 26, 1953.

She was a graduate of Poplar Bluff High School. She worked in several different capacities for the Poplar Bluff School System (we always suspected it was to keep an eye on her two sons and keep them out of trouble. She was mostly successful).

She worked many years with her husband Duke operating National Union Insurance Agency in Poplar Bluff until their retirement in 1994.

Mac enjoyed gardening, RV travel, and her Yorkshire Terrier dogs. When her sons were younger, she was the “neighborhood mom.” We never knew how many would show up for dinner, but everyone was always well fed. Many of those extra dinner guests became lifelong members of her extended family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Duke, her parents Cora and Lynn Green, and her brother Jim Green. She is survived by her two sons Steve (Patricia) Croy and Phil (Jane) Croy and brother Don (Nancy) Green. There are four grandchildren, Angela Flannery, Susan Weeks, Malia Croy, and Colin Croy as well as four great grandchildren.

The family wished to express their gratitude to the ladies who acted as her caregivers in her last year. You kept her happy, well fed, and gave her invaluable companionship. We are eternally grateful. We also wish to thank Elara Hospice for their kind and compassionate care in her final months.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 17th from at 11:00 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. at Willow Ridge Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff, MO. Graveside service will follow at Memorial Gardens with Rev. Jason Jordan officiating.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude PL, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.

Rest in peace, Mom. We love you and you will be missed.
