Hazel R. Righter, 88, of St. James, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007 at the Missouri Veteran's Home, in St. James.
Mrs. Righter was born April 14, 1919, in Fall River, Mass. She was of the Episcopal faith, and had retired as a registered nurse with the United States Navy and Army. Mrs. Righter began her military career in Jan. 1944 with the U.S. Navy Waves Nurse's Training at Union Hospital, Fort Sam Houston, Tex. During WWII thru 1958, she served at U.S. Army Hospital, Phoenixville, Pa., U.S. Army Hospital, Nuremberg, Germany, then again at Union Hospital, Fort Sam Houston, Tex., and ended at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital, Denver, Colo. with rank of Captain. She enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling.
On Feb. 14, 1958, she married Maurice F. Righter, in San Francisco, Calif. He preceded her in death on July 1, 1994.
Survivors include daughters, Janet M. Garms, of Shelbyville, Ill. and Susan Kay Anderson, of New Glarus, Wisc.; sons, Lewis Dean Righter, of Steelville, Mo. and Richard Lynn Righter, of New Glarus, Wisc.; 12 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel, in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the chapel with Father Ned Bowden officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, in Poplar Bluff.
