Hazel (Glass) Mills

August 24, 1923 — November 26, 2020

Hazel Mills, 97, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri passed away Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, 2020, at Mark Twain Caring Center.

Hazel, the youngest of 12 children of Will and Mattie Singleton Glass, was born Aug. 4, 1923, in Birdeye, Arkansas. During her earlier years, she worked as a part time teacher for two years and later as an aide for four years in the Chicago school districts. She was a member of Bethany Church of God in Christ, where she enjoyed teaching children.  Hazel loved teaching, traveling, reading biographies, fashion and jewelry and decorating the house. Her favorite food in the whole world was hamburgers and ice cream soda.

She was married to Barney Mills on July 27, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois.  He preceded her in death on Sept. 5, 1981.

Survivors include her daughter Julia Douglas Mills of Houston, Texas; 17 grandchild, two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.

A graveside service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the City Cemetery, with Pastor Gary McCain officiating.
