Haywood Harris

Haywood ""Dynamite"" H. Harris, Jr., 75, of Poplar Bluff died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2007 at his residence.

""Dynamite"" was born Dec. 26, 1931, in Hayti, Mo. He was a member of Central Baptist Church, in Poplar Bluff and had retired from the Poplar Bluff Police Department. ""Dynamite"" had worked at Doctor's Regional Medical Center, Hewlett Meat and Packing Co., Buddy's Cleaners, Riceland Corp., as well as several other odd jobs. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, and received a Korean Service Medal, a National Defense Service Medal, a United Nations Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. ""Dynamite"" was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events, where he served as Head or Assistant Coach. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

On Sept. 7, 1965, he married Victoria Marks. She preceded him in death on May 20, 1995.

Survivors include eight children, Jeannie Mack, DaRonda Robinson and Lisa Blackman, all of Poplar Bluff, Alan Johnson and Gregory Keith Harris, both of Albuquerque, New Mexico, James Harris, of Atlanta, Ga., Cynthia Blackman, of St. Louis and Millcent Wilson, of Miss.; 16 grandchildren, and a host of great grandchildren; two sisters, Army ""Skin"" Houston and Jessie ""Mickey"" Harris, both of Elkhart, Ind.; three brothers, James Harris, of Detroit, Mich., Carl Harris, of Akron, Ohio and Howard ""PeeWee"" Harris, of Chicago, Ill.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will begin at 12 noon Friday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. in the chapel with the Rev. Darrin Thomas officiating. Burial will be at the City Cemetery, in Poplar Bluff.
