George H. Jackson

George H. Jackson, 68, of Poplar Bluff, formerly of Doniphan, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007 at the St. Francis Medical Center, in Cape Girardeau.

Mr. Jackson was born Aug. 26, 1939, in St. Louis to the late George W. and Gladys (Engle) Jackson. He was a self-employed contractor and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Jackson enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.

On May 19, 1956, he was married to Jean James, in St. Louis. He was later married to Doris Schroeder on October 25, 1985, in Doniphan. She preceded him in death on Oct. 25, 2006.

Surviving are one son, Mel Jackson and wife Amy and their 2 sons, Colton and Cameron, of Poplar Bluff; his first wife and the mother of his son, Jean J. Cavenar, of Corning, Ark.; 2 step-daughters, Lisa Buller and husband Paul, of Enid, Okla., and Diana Evans and husband James, of Miami, Fla., one step-son John Fox of Rockford, Ill.; and one sister, Mary Ruth Turner, of Big Timber, Montana.

In addition to his parents Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by his step-mother, Helen Jackson and three brothers, Sonny Jackson, Paul Jackson and Ernest Jackson.

Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M., Thursday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel, in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M., Friday in the chapel with the Rev. Hubert Payne officiating. Burial will be in the City Cemetery, in Poplar Bluff.
