Fred Norman Greer

Fred Norman Greer, 68, of Poplar Bluff, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006 at his residence.

Mr. Greer was born Aug. 20, 1938, in Poplar Bluff. He was a member of the Oak Grove Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon as well as Sunday School Superintendent. Mr. Greer was a retired mechanic, a member of the Business Leaders for a Better Butler County and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed racing stockcars and was a NASCAR fan and an avid hunter and fisherman.

On Jan. 21, 1961, he married Sharon Lee Schreiber, in Elgin, Ill. She survives.

Other survivors include three daughters, Debra Lee Helton, Dora Lynne Williams and Daina Larie Francisco, all of Poplar Bluff; a son, Curtis Devonne Greer, of Poplar Bluff; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; four sisters Joyce Mercurio, of St. Louis, Nettie Coleman, of Poplar Bluff, Sandra Mae Ketchens, of Gould, Ark. and Grace McKnight, of Beebe, Ark.; and four brothers Delbert Earl Greer, William ""Bill"" Greer and Walter Greer, all of Beebe, Ark. and Eugene Greer, of Poplar Bluff.

Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Monday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel, in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the New Jerusalem Church in the 1800 block of South Broadway St., in Poplar Bluff with the Rev. Daniel Helton officiating and the Rev. Ralph Mayes assisting. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, in Poplar Bluff.
