Frank E. Anthony, Sr., 67, lifelong resident of Poplar Bluff died Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at Barnes Jewish Hospital, in St. Louis.
Mr. Anthony was born March 21, 1941, in Poplar Bluff, and was of the Baptist faith. Due to failing health he retired from Blackwell-Baldwin, of Poplar Bluff after 20 years of service. On July 11, 2006, Mr. Anthony became the recipient of a double lung transplant, for which he was very thankful. He was a member the American Legion, a past member of the Elks and Eagles Lodge and a past member of the Shriners and Masonic Lodge where he often volunteered on their projects. He was an avid golfer and twice was fortunate to accomplish a hole in one. He also enjoyed doing yard work/mowing, but his most memorable times were spent with his family, children, grandchildren and golfing with his many friends.
On Feb. 8, 1962 he married Lois Hudson, in Poplar Bluff. She survives.
Other survivors include four children, Cindy Sturgeon-Massimino and husband, Thomas, of St. Charles, Tina Downing and husband, Jeff, Frank E. Anthony, Jr. and wife, Lisa and Robert E. Anthony and wife, Rena, all of Poplar Bluff; 13 grandchildren, Dustin Vosburg, Daniel Mills and wife, Jessica, Jesse Bunch, Jessie Downing, Jay Massey, Brandon Bunch, Allie Anthony, Layne Sturgeon, Nikki Anthony, Anthony Massimino, Brannon Anthony, Natalie Sturgeon and Paige Anthony; one great-grandchild, Aubrey Mills; his mother, Stella Mae (Fears) Anthony, of Poplar Bluff; 4 sisters, Louise Pinkerton and husband, Charles, Norma Fredwell and husband, Leon, Wilma Duncan and husband, Don, and Ruth Ann Hunot, all of Poplar Bluff; a brother, Gene Anthony and wife, Priscilla, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a brother-in-law, Robert O. Hudson and wife, Katherine, of Mequon, Wisc.; 2 nieces, Kim and Cindy; and 9 nephews, Kirk, Steven, Keith, Kevin, Eric, Chris, Roger, Wayne and Robert Klock.
Mr. Anthony was preceded in death by his father, Chester Frank Anthony, sister, Mary Dell Montgomery-Carlson and husband Dr. E. C. Carlson, brother, Ernest Junior Anthony, sister-in-law, Mary Ann Hudson, and brother-in-law, Jack Hunot.
Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Friday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel, in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Westwood Baptist Church, 419 County Road 5231, in Poplar Bluff with Dr. Steve Proctor officiating. Burial will be at Sparkman Cemetery, in Butler County.
