Elvin A. Anthony, 81, of Poplar Bluff died Thursday, June 21, 2007 at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center, in Poplar Bluff.

Mr. Anthony was born Dec. 6, 1925, in Granite City, Ill. He attended the Southside Assembly of God Church and was a retired Welder for Union Pacific Railroad. Mr. Anthony was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during World War II. For his service he was awarded an American Theatre Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with three Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Star and Victory Medal. He was a member of the Poplar Bluff Masonic Lodge 209, Naylor Masonic Lodge, Three Rivers Shrine Club, Disabled American Veterans, Naylor Eastern Star and Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees. Mr. Anthony enjoyed hunting and fishing.

On April 10, 1997, he married Helen Louise Farris, in Pocahontas, Ark. She survives.

Other survivors include three children, Sue McPherson, of Farmersville, Ohio, Linda Wright, of Tacoma, Wash. and Ronald Anthony, of Fairdealing; seven step-children, James Farris, Florence Beebe and Laura Sappington, all of Poplar Bluff, Larry Farris, of Hunter, Michael Farris, of Ellsinore, Gary Farris, of Desloge, and Rita Townsend, of Williamsville,; several grandchildren; and a sister, Lois Brown, of DeSoto, Mo.

A Masonic Service will begin at 6 p.m. Sunday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel with the visitation following. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel, with the Rev. Jerry Lemon officiating. Burial will be at Sparkman Cemetery, in Butler County.
