Dorothy L. Garrett

June 4, 1917 — April 10, 2007

Dorothy Lurene Garrett, 89, passed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on April 10th at St. Francis Medical Center.

Mrs. Garrett was born at Hendrickson on June 4, 1917.

Retired from Roth's Department Store where she had worked for 37 years, she loved working in her yard, sewing and visiting friends. She was happiest playing with her eleven great-grandchildren of whom she just finished quilting her last of eleven quilts.

Mrs. Garrett devoted her entire life living for Jesus. Her life was a reflection of her love for her Savior and serving Him through loving, ministering and visiting others. Mrs. Garrett has been a member of Second Baptist Church for 56 years. She taught Children's and Adult III Sunday School Classes and served many years in Bible School. She was the Outreach Leader for the Dorcas/Lydia class and visited the shut-ins of her church faithfully.

On Feb. 2, 1938, she married Eugene Garrett. He preceded her in death on May 19, 1990.

She is survived by her daughters Marjorie Osborn and husband Bob and Jan Desgranges and husband Roger, all of Poplar Bluff; three granddaughters, Kathleen Pattillo and husband John David, of Poplar Bluff, Rhonda Cox and husband Blake, of Walnut Ridge, Ark., and Amy Collins and husband Brian, of The Woodlands, Tex.; eleven great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Nicholas, Gabrielle, and Katherine Pattillo, Matthew, Courtney, Madison and Olivia Cox and Jordan, Benjamin and David Collins.

Her parents, James and Julia Vaughn, a sister, Alda Deal and a brother, George Vaughn also preceded Mrs. Garrett in death.

Visitation will be at Second Baptist Church Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Celebration of her life will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Luther Abbott officiating. Burial will follow at the New Oak Hill Cemetery.
