Donald 'Don' Stuart Moffitt

October 2, 1954 — July 30, 2022

Ellsinore, mo

Donald ‘Don’ Moffitt, 67, of Ellsinore, Missouri, passed away Friday, July 29, 2022, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

On Feb. 12, 1981, he married his high school sweetheart Debra Smith in Mineral Point, Missouri.

Don was born Oct. 2, 1954, in Poplar Bluff to Burl and Wanda Moffitt. After high school he traveled all over the country running heavy equipment on construction jobs. As a job superintendent his biggest joy was sharing his knowledge with “beginners” in the industry. He was proud to see them run the equipment like “old-timers”. Don was a proud member of the International Union Operating Engineers #153.

Don enjoyed running the back roads to visit with friends and sharing his life stories. He took pride in raising and running coyote dogs and working with horses and cattle.

Don was complex. He had strong opinions and usually said what he thought; like him or not. He was usually the first to offer someone help or money when needed. Don was intelligent. He had such a variety of experiences in his life and carried a wealth of knowledge. There were some things he wished he could have gone back and changed; but overall, he loved life and passionately loved his family. Don will be missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his loving wife, Debra; his daughter, Amanda Moffitt, and fiancé Kane Parker of Ellsinore; his son, Donnie Moffitt, and fiancé Melanie Regan of Grandin; four grandchildren, Lincoln Moffitt, Wyatt Beckman, Holton Beckman and Sorrel Beckman of Grandin; his brother, Keith Moffitt and wife Kathy of Strafford, Missouri; nephews, Zach Moffitt, Ethan Moffitt, Evan Moffit and Kevin Smith; his sister, Melinda Moffitt and significant other, Mike Hodges of Aurora, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Sandy Whitt  of Poplar Bluff and Sherry Potter and husband Terry of Williamsville; four nieces, Shanna (Brian) Miller, Carrie (Charles Joseph) Hall and Christine Whitt all of Poplar Bluff and Jessica Potter of Williamsville; and a host of great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Robert Moffitt, and a brother-in-law Bucky Whitt.

Visitation will begin at 10 am Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2022, at Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 11 am in the chapel with Rev. Jerry Crowley officiating. Burial will take place at New Hope Cemetery in Pollard, Arkansas.
