Clyde W. Libla

Clyde Wayne Libla, 88, of Poplar Bluff passed away Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Libla was born Oct. 7, 1919 in Hiram, (Wayne County) Mo., the third child of the late John William and Willie Nora (Hughey) Libla. He was a long-time member of Greenville United Methodist Church. In 1936, Mr. Libla enlisted with the Civilian Conservation Corps, in Ellington. His last assignment was in the forestry department in Marysvale, Utah. He returned to Wayne County and became a rural mail contractor for the Lowndes, Hiram and Greenville area from which he retired after 55 years of service. He also owned and operated Libla Furniture and Hardware in Greenville for 27 years, along with other self employed occupations. Mr. Libla enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing bingo with friends and family, studying local history and playing his guitar. He was a member of the Broseley Senior Choir and Northtown Nutrition Center Choir.

On Aug. 19, 1942, he married Marglie Viola Thomas, of Marquand, Mo, in Hiram. She survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Joyce Libla Robinson and husband David, of Herod, Ill.; three sons, Larry Libla and wife Pam, of Fisk, David Libla and wife Mary, of Fairdealing and Doug Libla and wife Elaine, of Poplar Bluff; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Leon Libla and Robert Libla, both of Greenville.

In addition to his parents, a sister, Lena Libla Hackworth and brother, Claude Libla also preceded him in death.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church with Dr. William Vail and the Rev. Gene Robbins officiating. Burial will be in Cypress Cemetery near Fairdealing, adjacent to the David Libla farm.
