Charles C. Knapp, Jr., 82, of Poplar Bluff died Friday, Sept. 21, 2007 at his residence.

Mr. Knapp was born May 22, 1925, in Hoxie, Ark. He was a charter member of Temple Baptist Church, and had retired after over 40 years as a conductor for Union Pacific Railroad. Mr. Knapp was a World War II veteran of the United States Army attached to the 164th Infantry Division of Americal. During the Asian Pacific Theatre Campaign he helped retake the Philippine and Solomon Islands and was part of the occupation force that took Japan. For his services Mr. Knapp was awarded 2 Bronze Stars, a Good Contact Medal, an Asiatic Pacific Theatre Campaign Ribbon, 3 Overseas Service Bars and a Victory Ribbon. He enjoyed spending time with his family, working in the yard and watching the St. Louis Cardinals on his big screen TV.

On Sept. 4, 1948, he married Thelma Imogene Inman. She survives.

Other survivors include sons, Charles David Knapp and wife Brenda and Kevin Wayne Knapp, all of Poplar Bluff; grandchildren, Gabriel C. Knapp, Catherine Knapp and Joe Knapp; and great-granddaughter, Kallie Renee Knapp.

His parents Charles C. and Lola Edith (Maple) Knapp, Sr., and brother Robert Lee Knapp preceded him in death.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at Temple Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Steve Patterson officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
