Charley Blackman, Sr., of Poplar Bluff, died Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at the St. Louis University Hospital.

Mr. Blackman was born June 5, 1921, in Boydell, Ark. to the late Vick and Isabella (Powe) Blackman. He was a member of the True Believer's Missionary Baptist Church and a retired farmer. Mr. Blackman enjoyed spending time with his family and fishing.

He was married to the former Reola Marie Hunt. She preceded him in death on Oct. 30, 2006.

Survivors include his daughter, Margaret Marie Vaughn, of Poplar Bluff; two sons, Charley Blackman, Jr. and wife Lisa, of Poplar Bluff and Amos Billops and wife Wilma, of New Haven, Miss.; 11 grandchildren, Bradley DeWayne Blackman, Victoria Marie Blackman, Margie Morse, Iris Joiner, Adrian Brown, James M. Brown, Lester L. Brown, Jr., Amon Billops, Stanley Billops, Isabella Billops and Amos Billops, Jr.; 30 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Elmo Blackman, of Greenville, S.C. and Lacy Carl Blackman, of Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

A daughter, Isabella Nolen and a sister, Beatrice Blackman Ellison preceded Mr. Blackman in death.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the True Believer's Missionary Baptist Church, 510 North C St., in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Johnny Williams officiating and the Rev. Andrew Jefferson assisting. Burial will be at Morrocco Cemetery, in Butler County.
