Carroll Henry Jennings

Carroll H. Jennings, 79, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

Carroll was born October 20, 1941 to Earl and Roberta Laffoon Jennings in Dudley, MO.  He and Eloise Cochrane were married June 8, 1984 in Columbia, MO.  She survives.

Carroll grew up in Dexter and Columbia, MO.  He graduated from the University of Missouri with a master’s degree in Social Work.  He worked at the Biggs unit in Fulton State Hospital, a general hospital in Columbia, MO until moving to Poplar Bluff where he was a psychiatric social worker for the Department of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities Division, until his retirement.

Carroll enjoyed gardening and building things.  In his retirement years, he accepted the duties of Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Sadler Chapel Cemetery Association.  He was active in bringing the cemetery into compliance with state laws, upgrading the cemetery, getting all burials charted and recorded, and assisting with the perpetual maintenance fund.  He was an active volunteer in the local senior choir.  He served a term as regional director for the AARP Senior Tax Service. Carroll was a member of the First Baptist Church of Poplar Bluff where he enjoyed teaching men’s Sunday school class.

In addition to his wife, Carroll is survived by a brother, Lehman Jennings of Marshall, MO.

Carroll was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles and William Jennings and a sister, Saundra Jennings.

A private graveside will be held at Sadler Cemetery in Dexter, MO.
