Carroll D. Ellis

Carroll D. Ellis, 69, of Poplar Bluff, died unexpectedly Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006 at the Barnes Jewish Hospital, in St. Louis.

Mr. Ellis was born Nov. 22, 1936, in Liberty, KY to the late Ray and Della (Overstreet) Ellis. He was of the Protestant faith and had retired after 18 years as the owner and operator of Ellis Grocery on the corner of M Hwy and Township Line Road. Mr. Ellis was also a veteran of the U. S. Army. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren and dog Skippy.

On May 31, 1969, he married Carolyn Jean Chilton, in E. St. Louis, IL. She preceded him in death on Aug. 15, 2000.

Survivors include two sons, D. J. Ellis and wife Jaime and Dennis Talley, of Poplar Bluff; a daughter, Carolyn Sullivan and husband Dale, of Poplar Bluff; special friend, Joyce Kearbey, of Poplar Bluff; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Talley, of Silva; 13 grandchildren, Hayle Ellis, Joey Ellis, David Gholson and wife Tammie, Dwain Gholson and wife Shelly, Kenny Sullivan and wife Mechelle, Mary Jean Bishop and husband Keith, Sherry Fouts and husband Curt, Jimmie Talley and wife Autumn, and Billie Talley and Teri Talley, all of Poplar Bluff, Doug Talley and wife Lorina, of Tacoma, WA, Debbie Stewart and husband Kevin, of Patterson and Vickie Goss, of Silva; 21 great-grandchildren; one sister, Barbara Eastridge, of Casey Creek, KY; and a brother Morris Ellis, of Hillsboro, OH.

Two sons, James O. Talley and Jimmy Talley also preceded Mr. Ellis in death.

Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Monday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel, in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, in the funeral chapel. Burial will follow at the Gresham Cemetery, in Carter County.
