Bobby Joe Shoumake

Bobby Joe Shoumake, 62, of Poplar Bluff died Monday, June 2, 2008 at his residence.

Mr. Shoumake was born Jan. 31, 1946, in Poplar Bluff. He had retired from the United States Navy after 23 years of service. For his service, Mr. Shoumake received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with one Bronze Star, Navy Achievement Medal with one Gold Star, Navy Battle ""E"" Ribbon, Navy Expeditionary Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation and Navy Good Conduct Award Medal with two Bronze Stars. He was a member of the Amvets Lodge, V.F.W., American Legion and Eagles Lodge. Mr. Shoumake enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include four children, Samuel Shoumake, of Poplar Bluff, Paul Shoumake and Melissa Shoumake, both of Carthage, Mo. and LaDonna Shoumake, of Virginia Beach, Va.; 5 grandchildren, 2 great-granchildren; four sisters, Clara Swofford and Judy LaRue, both of Poplar Bluff, Brenda Olcott, of Jacksonville, Fla. and Mary M. Morgan, of Boise, Idaho; a brother, Sidney Shoumake, of Naylor; and special friends and caregivers, Bonnie Greenwall and Jesse Morgan, both of Poplar Bluff.

Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel, in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Chapel, with the Rev. Jimmy Gilbert officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at the City Cemetery, in Poplar Bluff.
