Billy "Bill" John Hamilton

Billy John Hamilton, 89, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, passed away Monday, January 31, 2022, in the Puxico Nursing Home.

Bill was born on December 7, 1932, in Greenway, Arkansas to Robert Ordrey Hamilton and Clara Roe Oates Hamilton. He married Frances Elaine Gibson on July 9, 1954, in St. Francis, Arkansas.

Bill worked for Barnes Grocer Company for over 40 years. He worked as a delivery driver and eventually became the warehouse manager. Bill loved to drive. After he retired, he delivered and picked up cars for many of the local auto dealerships. In the company of his wife, his sister, and brother-in-law, Bill traveled throughout the U.S. by car visiting all but a few states. Bill was a deacon at the South Poplar Bluff General Baptist Church for 55 years. His life was devoted to serving God, his family, and his church family.

Bill is survived by two sons, Kent (Preeti) Hamilton of St. Louis, Craig (Pam) Hamilton of Poplar Bluff; six grandchildren, Kristin Hamilton of Poplar Bluff, Heather Arment (Jeremy Moss) of Fairdealing, Ethan (Lindsey) Hamilton of Patton, Missouri, Riley (Janae) Hamilton, Lauren Hamilton, and Jacob Hamilton of Poplar Bluff; one brother, Garland Hamilton of Fredericktown; two sisters, Dean Morse of Poplar Bluff, and Jean Hager of Mehlville; a special brother-in-law Bill Morse; and eight great-grandchildren.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 62 years, Frances, and three sisters, Betty Runyon, Sue Callahan, and Joyce Medeiros.

The visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Monday, February 7, 2022, at Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral Chapel, with the funeral following at 2 p.m.  The Rev. Rick White and the Rev. Keith Luke will officiate. Burial will follow at Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
